part 1: childhood

my first introduction to computers was through cd-rom games like reader rabbit and jumpstart world. but soon after i discovered webkinz, which i think was my first online account in 2007! soon after followed club penguin, which kind of became a big deal for me later. i was really into kids virtual worlds. if it existed, i probably played it. some other games/sites i remember:

part 2: online communities pre-social media

mileyworld.com

this miley cyrus fansite was THE website for me for a while. i still wish i could see my old posts. i still have my membership card, and i actually remember watching sabrina carpenter compete in the mileyworld be a star contest when we were both 10 years old.

kidz bop

kidz bop also had their own social media site, where you could post videos and host your own contests and webshows. i was OBSESSED and i never hear anyone else talk about it.

disney create

i don't know how many people remember, but from 2010(?)-2014, disney had a section of their website called disney create. there were different type of drawing games you could play, and save all your artwork on your profile. 2 popular artstyles were powerpuff girls (called ppg) and anime. this website was basically my life in 2010 and 2011, before i discovered graphics software.

club penguin

at some point, i became fascinated with the idea of having my own website. i also was really into club penguin. i was a member of a number of club penguin forums in 2011, and later that year started my own website, a club penguin cheats blog. (not saying the name here because idk if i want to connect this site to my real life yet haha). i spent basically every day after school in middle school coding and making graphics for my website. there was this one theme basically everyone used, i wish i could remember the name. i made other websites too, the ones i can remember were a bella thorne and zendaya fansite and a stardoll blog. i also used to make cpmv's on youtube and was active on club penguin twitter

teenage years & fandoms

i think i was the only person on earth to actually follow the rules and waited until i was 13 to make a real social media account. my first one was twitter, which i first used for club penguin, but eventually switched to a stan twitter account for austin mahone, ariana grande, and a million other celebrities who i have either continued to love or forgotten about since then (sorry austin mahone). i also had a tumblr that i started in 2012, dedicated to ariana grande. i still remember the first tumblr post i ever saw, it was when miley cyrus chopped her hair off and dyed it blonde, and i thought tumblr users were just really good at photoshop.

now!

now i'm trying to get back into my website coding era, since sometimes having all my social media be public and tied to myself gets old. as much as i love being on tiktok and instagram with my friends, i do kinda miss having a community of strangers from around the world. so yeah! this will be fun
